Barbara’s flying aspirations began at the age of 10 when her father took her on a joy riding flight in a C-172 out of a small airport in Robbinsville, NJ. From that point on, she was hooked. After earning a bachelor’s degree in English from Hartwick College in 1992, Barbara began attending a Part 141 flight school in NJ, where she earned her Private, Commercial, Instrument, CFI and CFII certificates, and Multi-Engine rating. It was also there that her career as a Flight Instructor began. During the summers, Barbara also flew in a Grumman AA-1 and worked as a traffic reporter over the northern NJ and New York City airspace. In 1997 she relocated to CO and began working for the NTSB as an Air Safety Investigator, while also earning a master’s degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle. After leaving the NTSB, Barbara spent three years as a Flight Safety Investigator with Delta Air Lines.
Following a 4 year hiatus to raise three kids, Barbara resumed her Flight Instructor career in 2009, and has been instructing ever since. At present, Barbara is a Navigation Information Analyst with Jeppesen, and continues to actively flight instruct on a part-time basis in a variety of different airplanes. With over 20 years of aviation experience in general aviation, air carrier operations, as well as with the federal government, and with over 4,000 hours of dual given… teaching is ultimately Barbara’s true profession, flying is her passion, and flight safety is paramount.
